Two from Durham Regional receive Isaac Manning Awards

Durham Regional awards two Dr. Isaac Manning Jr. Awards annually to recognize dedication, caring and excellence in patient care.
One award is given to an employee in direct patient care and one is given to an employee providing support service. This year's awards went to:
Reba Beavers, RN, Nursing Informatics System Specialist II
“Reba has dedicated her life to making a difference at Durham Regional. She received her diploma from Watts School of Nursing in 1968, and became a nurse at Watts Hospital. She came to Durham Regional in 1976. Reba is willing to help anyone with anything—from technical problems to answering the question “why are we doing this?” Her knowledge and experience have contributed to the success of Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE). She has maintained her connection with patient care by serving as one of the Nursing Administrators who provides evening coverage for the entire hospital. She has been a mentor to many throughout the years and is loved by all.”
Cathy Oakley, RN, Vascular Access Specialty Team (VAST)
“Not only is Cathy an excellent nurse, but I have heard many accolades from patients regarding her care and compassion. She was co-developer of the instruction process for
reviewing PICC line placement for other VAST nurses and that educational program is now used throughout the health system. It is rare not to see Cathy helping and mentoring a nursing student, and she puts patients at ease by forming a bond and easing in to the part of the hospitalization patients dread the most—the needle stick.”
