Saladino named Spirited Leader

Louise Saladino, RN, nurse manage of the Critical Care Unit, was awarded the Spirited Leader Award for her leadership and dedication to patients while improving the CCU during a multi-million dollar renovation.

“The unit was fully functioning while undergoing a complete renovation and turnover of management staff. Louise was able to accomplish many things, including serving as cochair of Durham Regional’s Rapid Response Team; ensuring nurses were educated to “Standards of Care” for critically ill patients; and she was instrumental in bringing the pilot program “Condition H” safety initiative to DRH. In addition, the CCU has seen a 28 percent increase in work culture scores since Saladino became manager. The unit also just celebrated one year of zero percent nosocomial skin breakdowns. When given the tools, as Louise has done, staff members can do work that changes lives. CCU team members believe that Louise cares deeply for each of them for their commitment to the unit.”

Saladino also received the Triangle Business Journal’s 2009 Health Care Hero award.
