Women continue to outnumber men in the Duke University School of Nursing, but men are closing the gap.

In fact, DUSON is seeking to launch a chapter of the American Assembly for Men in Nursing. An application has been submitted to AAMN. Here’s a look at the latest numbers from DUSON:
Men make up:

  • 16% of all faculty
  • 18% of all staff
  • 18% of the cohort most recently admitted to the accelerated bachelor of science in nursing (ABSN) program (Up from 6% in the previous group.)
  • 23% of the spring 2008 master of science in nursing (MSN) cohort (Versus 12% in spring 2007.)
  • 27% of nursing school Ph.D. students
  • 38% of core ABSN faculty, including the assistant dean for undergraduate education
