Meet a Great Nurse: Alene Love
posted August 11th, 2010Alene Love, a clinical nurse specialist on Unit 6100 and 6300 at Duke Hospital, is one of nine DUHS' nurses named a Great Nurse.
Alene has been a nurse for 44 years and has spent the last 25 years in different roles at Duke.
"When I came to Duke, I started as a staff nurse in the Neuro-ICU," she says.
From there she became a clinical nurse specialist in Neurosurgery and also did discharge planning for a period of time. Then she became involved in pain management.
"I am primarily a nurse educator, now," she says. "I do some patient education and provide a lot of clinical resources for staff."
She says that one of the greatest things about nursing is that "you can do a lot of different things."
Alene says being a team leader for the Pain, Stress Management and Palliative Care Team is the most fun part of her job because she has such great team members.
