DUHS holds special screening of ‘Extraordinary Measures’
posted January 26th, 2010DUHS held a private premiere of the new film "Extraordinary Measures" at the Southpoint Cinemas in Durham on Jan. 25 for Pompe disease patients and their families, as well as a group of Duke health care professionals and researchers. More than 200 people attended.
The film tells the story of a man's quest to obtain treatment for his children, who suffer from the rare metabolic disorder. Research into the first and only life-saving treatment for Pompe began at Duke 20 years ago. In 2006, the FDA approved the use of Myozyme, which is manufactured and marketed by Genzyme Corp., based on Duke research.
