DUH patient transporters find rewards in helping patients
posted January 7th, 2010Toby Daye, a patient transporter at Duke University Hospital, talks about helping patients travel across the health system for their appointments and the many rewarding aspects of his job.
Each member of the patient transporter team encounters several patients every hour and transports them from one destination to the next.
Daye says he likes to "make every patient feel comfortable and at home."
It's surprising how many patients feel like a friend or family member after our short time together, he said. "It's lovely thing."
Daye understand that he is helping patients receive their care. "We are very important to this hospital," he said.
"It makes you feel like an important person."
