Projects’ utility construction will affect traffic

posted October 8th, 2009

Due to construction requirements for the Duke Medicine Pavilion and Cancer Center projects, utility construction along Yearby, Flowers and Trent will take place October 2009 through January 2010.

Construction will begin in October along Yearby Street near the intersection with Flowers Drive. All vehicular traffic will be maintained throughout October, with some weekend work that will restrict traffic at the intersection of Yearby and Flowers; flaggers will be present to direct traffic at these times.

In November, construction is planned to take place along Flowers Drive between Yearby Street and Trent Drive. All vehicular traffic will be maintained throughout this time with the exception of work at the intersection of Trent and Flowers; for two weeks (slated to begin in early December), traffic will be restricted and flaggers will be present to direct traffic through this intersection.

Final phases of construction in December and January will not impact weekday traffic, though weekend work in January will require the temporary closure of Trent Drive and the Clinic Drive; temporary detours will be posted to direct traffic at this time.

Reserved parking will be impacted; those individuals that will be affected have been contacted by Parking Services via email regarding temporary relocation of parking. The construction will also impact heavily-traveled sidewalks; for their safety, pedestrians must be mindful of temporary detours and heed construction detour and warning signs.

The construction schedule is subject to weather and other conditions beyond control and may change in response to issues that may arise.
